The Moses soles is a type of fish which flourishes in the Gulf of Aqaba. For self-defense, the fish produces a lethal poison, pardaxin, in the glands along its rear fins. Scientists have found that just one part of pardaxin in 5,000 parts of seawater is enough to kill mollusks and small sea creatures. When researchers placed a Moses sole into a pool of two white-tip sharks, the sharks made a dive for the fish and retreated, their jaws agape as if they were unable to close them. Because it enters the sharkâs bloodstream and causes paralysis, pardaxin seems to be the ideal shark repellent.
